Statistics Lithuania closely cooperates with the statistical offices of other EU Member States, analyses achievements of other statistical offices and shares best practices, employs experience gained when developing new projects. Statistics Lithuania also participates in common ESS projects.
Strategic cooperation issues, the statistical programme, methods and processes for the production of Community statistics are discussed during meetings of Director Generals of Nationals Statistical Institutes (the so-called DGINS), which is each year hosted by a different Member State (http://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/web/european-statistical-system/ess-governance-bodies/dgins).
The Baltic Steering Committee for Statistics was established in 1996, meetings take place annually on rotation in one of the Baltic countries. During these meetings experience is exchanged, reached results and possibilities of further cooperation are discussed, annual working plans are agreed. Specialists form the Baltic countries meet around 9 times a year to discuss various statistical domains.
A partnership between the Baltic countries and Finland started more than 20 years ago, covering areas such as quality, dissemination, censuses, agriculture Statistics, Statistics Lithuania specialists also regularly participate in many Baltic-Nordic statistical events.
Cooperation agreement with the Statistical Office of Poland (GUS) was signed in 1991 and since then has developed into the exchange of best practices and common projects, in particular joint publications. This cooperation was sometimes extended to the framework of the European Territorial programme, also involving statistics on Belarus and the Ukraine.
In February 2020, as a result of Mr. Tjark Tjin-A-Tsoi, Director General of Statistics Netherlands, and Mr. Marcel van der Steen, Chief Innovation and Strategic Partnership Officer, high-level visit to Statistics Lithuania, a Memorandum of Understanding, was signed between Statistics Lithuania and Statistics Netherlands, foreseeing cooperation in innovation strategy, advanced data collection, Big Data and information dialogue as well as communication strategy and process improvement, efficiency and quality domains.
