From 2012, Statistics Lithuania participates in the activity of the UN Statistical Commission as a national statistical office. The 48th annual session of the Commission takes place in New York, 7-10 March 2017.

In March 2013, the Director General of Statistics Lithuania Vilija Lapėnienė was elected a member of the International Statistical Institute (ISI).

The specialists of Statistics Lithuania also actively participate in the ISI activity, prepare and make presentations on various statistical themes, participate in international projects.

Since 2014 Statistics Lithuania has become an institutional member with the ISI.

The intention to become a full member of the OECD has been mentioned in the programmes of the Lithuanian Government since year 2000.

In September 2002, an official declaration of Lithuania's intention to become a full member of the OECD was presented to the Organization's Secretary-General. In 2012 Lithuania renewed its membership application.

In May 2013, OECD Council resolution on Global Reach has been adopted, mentioning the initiation of more active Lithuania-OECD co-operation and a possibility to open accession negotiations with Lithuania in 2015. In October 2013, Lithuania-OECD Action Plan for 2014-2015 has been adopted, identifying the main areas of enhanced co-operation.

On 21 October 2013 Director of OECD Global Relations Department (Mr M. Bonturi) invited Lithuania to become Participants to the Committee on Statistics and Statistical Policy (CSSP) and participate in sessions and meetings of this Committee. Lithuania accepted the invitation in January 2014.

Director General of Statistics Lithuania for the first time participated in the CSSP session on 7–8 April 2014 in OECD, Paris as the Participant.

Since the beginning of 2015 Statistics Lithuania experts have started active preparatory activities for the Statistical Review. On April 14–16 Statistics Lithuania hosted the first visit from OECD with participation of Mr. Paul Schreyer, Deputy Director of OECD Statistics Directorate and Mr. Julien Dupont as well as Mr. David Brackfield from the Global Relations and Communications Division of the Statistics Directorate. Following the Action points, agreed with the OECD Statistics directorate during its mission to Vilnius, 26 questionnaires were filled in, 5 other activities were carried out, data and metadata submitted according to the approved transmission calendar. Statistics Lithuania was responsible for preparation of descriptions or parts of descriptions for the Initial Memorandum on such recommendations like Benchmark Definition of Foreign Direct Investment, Gender equality in Education, Employment and Entrepreneurship, Reporting on the State of the Environment and provided inputs to descriptions produced by other 4 institutions. Contributions were made to the draft publication "2016 OECD Economic Survey of Lithuania". Questionnaires received from other ministries and OECD directorates were filled in: from the Ministry of Education on INES for the LEED programme publication, for the Ministry of Social Care and Labour for DELSA needs, for the Ministry of Environment on Environmental information, etc.

In 2015 experts from Statistics Lithuania participated in 14 meetings and events organized by both Statistics Division and other OECD divisions: OECD-CSSP meeting, SDMX Global Conference, National Accounts and Finance Statistics Working groups, and in statistics-related meetings organized by other OECD structures, e.g. in joint Eurostat-OECD-UNECE meeting of National Accounts experts, Working Party on International Trade in Goods and Trade in Services, Working Group on International Investment Statistics, Technical Workshop on Foreign Direct Investment and Global Value Chains, Health Accounts Experts and Correspondents for Health Expenditure Data meeting, together with the representatives of the Ministry of Environment in the Seminar on implementation of SEEA, Working Party on Environmental Information, OECD NESTI/EUROSTAT scoping workshop on the 3rd revision of the Oslo Manual, and etc.

Director General of Statistics Lithuania participated in the CSSP session on 25-26 April 2015 in OECD, Paris. The next annual CSSP meeting is due 19-20 June 2017 in Geneva.

On 26–27 October, Statistics Lithuania hosted the second meeting of the OECD experts. The mission was headed by Mr Paul Schreyer, Deputy Director of the OECD Statistics Directorate, with participation of Mr Julien Dupont from the Global Relations and Communications Division of the Statistics Directorate and Coordinator for Lithuania, and Mr Charles Aspden, the OECD consultant on national accounts, as well as invited OECD experts – Mr Hans Viggo Sæbø (Statistics Norway) and Mr Gerardo Durand Alcántara (National Institute of Statistics and Geography of Mexico).
